Step 3: Finishing the curtain

glossary

Apply Curtain Tape

Fabric is wrong side up.

With the wrong side of the skirt facing up, fold and iron a 1/2" crease. With the shiny-side down to the curtain, pin the No-Sew Curtain Tape 1/8" down along the top crease. This will make a nice, professional-looking finish. Now, just iron the tape in place. Use a slow, steady, steaming iron.

Hemming

The fabric is wrong side up.

Pin down an end of the No-Sew tape with the paper side up/adhesive down on the wrong side of the fabric. Gently press it along the edge to be bonded.

Do not remove the paper yet! Fold over and press lightly again to crease.

Tip

It never hurts to be careful. The easiest way to double check whether the length of the curtain is right is not to hem until you have completed the curtain.

After you have applied the Curtain Tape, put in the rod and hang. Check the length measurement one last time for accuracy. Mark the hem length and measure from the top of curtain to insure that the finished curtain is the right length. Then remove the curtain from the rod and place the curtain wrong side up on the ironing surface.

  • Place curtain with marked hem on ironing surface with wrong side up.

  • Pin hem to desired length and iron to make a crease at the hem.

  • Remove the paper backing. Fold the hem back up and pin. Press well to finish the hem.

Voila! You've made a beautiful curtain! Congratulations! Enjoy!
